At a time when museums and art galleries are unable to accommodate the public, The Steamroom began its very eye-catching window exhibitions that served as an enjoyment to its many customers and passersby on Kingsland Road.

The Steamroom has the pleasure of showcasing Sarah Kwan’s mesmerising “East Meets West” collection, which effectively highlights the connections between Scottish and Chinese culture in a lighthearted and colourful way. Her work includes ‘Aye & Brew Tea Set’ which places a popular Scottish soft drink in a Chinese Tea Set, the ‘Teacake Dim Sum’ design with chocolate teacakes sitting in a bamboo basket like Chinese dumplings, and ‘Double Happiness Thistles' where popular Chinese Characters blend together with Scotland's beautiful National Flower.

As a result of her remarkable work, the Edinburgh-based freelance artist and illustrator has also been featured on the BBC Scotland’s loop series. Sarah is also a co-founder of East and Southeast Asian Scotland (ESA Scotland), a group established to support the ESEA community in Scotland. Sarah’s extraordinary work is now available for sale at The Steamroom, in-store and online.

“I want to share a fun and light-hearted look at the similarities between Scottish and Chinese culture,” Kwan explains. “I was born and raised in Scotland by my Chinese family and have an interesting perspective on what it means to be Scottish. My work aims to bring people together through humour and art - I'm delighted to be able to showcase this through The Steamroom!" Sarah Kwan - Artist
