Our Manifesto

We strongly believe everyone and everything in the world deserves to be treated with kindness and respect, therefore, we incorporate these into every garment that passes our hands, by looking after it as if it is the most precious item in the world, and providing the necessary knowledge to our friendly customers so they too can prolong the life of their beloved clothes, while also radiating the same love for discovering and showcasing local talent.

At the Steam room we are very supportive of the local creative community. Most of the projects are Steamroom customers, It’s a great way for us to give back. As well as some exciting collaborations in the future.

•Retail pop up’s

•Art Gallery exhibitions

•Supporting emerging Asian artist

Quotes

“The team at the Steam Room (Tony and Fran) were great to work with from the beginning. I contacted them about displaying my work and they were very enthusiastic and supportive. I appreciate the exposure they have given my work along with their support of Asian artists and designers.”

Lily Prior - Artist

“Tony and Fran are lovely, friendly, community-minded people, and their shop, the Steam Room, is a Dry Cleaners with an added extra factor; the delightful Lifestyle Store at the front selling hand-selected prints, cards, gifts, t-shirts, toys, and homewares; much of the stock by local artists and makers. I recently had an exhibition of prints in their window and they arranged it very creatively. They are very engaging, a joy to work with, well-organised with and show a fine attention to detail. I will definitely be using their services when I next need dry cleaning done too.”

Jane Smith - Artist

“Thank you to Eulan and his creative mind and Tony for his openness. A great combination with the shop. The SteamRoom basement is a wonderful, interesting and alterative space for ideas”

Jian Jun Xi – Artist . Mad for Real

“Thanks to Tony, Eulan and the Steamroom family for hosting our project! You truly embraced the spirit of Dylan’s performance and welcomed us with generosity. I can see the Steamroom basement becoming a significant addition to the local and creative communities”

Rowena Chiu, curator and producer, Blain|Southern gallery

“my favourite owned by the lovely Tony has had a refurb. swish new kit and lovely things for the home from China, Japan and Hackney!”

Catherine Ince – Chief Curator , V&A East, Victoria and Albert Museum.

“what ‘s interesting about it youve organically tapped into a mindset, taking a simple need and flipped it on its head. Turning it into a destination for fans  as well as serving a practical need. With an events space providing studio space for emerging designers I cant wait to see what collabs come out of it “

Harriet Allen - Creative Brand Strategist at Checkland Kindleysides

“Making Shirts at The Steam Room Basement was produced by Rowena Chiu and was a fantastic collaboration with Eulan, Tony and their families who are an integral part of the space and make the entire working process extremely friendly and welcoming. They let their customers know what is going on downstairs so there is a community of passerby as well as people specifically coming to The Steam Room to see what is going on. All the visitors came with curiosity and interest and sat with a cup of tea comfortably chatting with whoever was about. Thank you Eulan and Tony for making the weekend an open house!“
