As the world rejoices yet another successful trip around the sun, the East and South East Asian
(ESEA) communities get together to celebrate one of their most important festivals; the Lunar New Year. Following the Lunar calendar, 2022 will welcome the Year of the tiger, which officially starts on the 1st of February.
This Lunar new year, the Steam room and Niconico have teamed up to create the Lai See Canvas window display; a truly unique experience to be witnessed by one and all! Using our little red envelopes, we invite you to partake in the Lai See Canvas workshop which will turn blank canvases into special personalised Lai Sees with your very own designs and messages to share with your loved ones.``
“It is a Chinese custom to hand out Lai See (also called Hongbao or Red Packet) during lunar New Year. These little envelopes are usually red and contain money and often used as a symbol of good luck and prosperity.”
The Steam Room proudly supports artists and artisan makers from the UK ESEA community as well as Hackney Chinese Community Services. Limited edition artworks will be showcased and available for purchase in The Steam Room’s boutique store.
